Stay At Home TeamGym Battle ll: 09/06/21
16 young gymnasts from Wye Gymnastics entered the above event which was was run by Bracknell Gymnastics Club and was open to all TeamGym Clubs across the UK.
This event was the second of its kind and was created to give gymnasts who had been on an incredibly long lockdown something to work towards during this time.
The gymnasts had to film themselves completing two set routines from home and submit their video evidence to a panel of judges from across the UK to scrutinise and score accordingly.
The teams from Wye Gymnastics did exceptionally well with the following results:-
Emily Drew – 1st place Junior Elite
Maddy Jones – 2nd place Junior Elite
Caitlin Shaw – 3rd place Junior Elite
The 3 above girls, along with teammate Carys Dolbel took the Team Gold Medal in this event.
Dylan Smallcombe – 1st place Youth Performance (Male)
George Lee – 3rd place Youth Performance (Male)
Kelsey Howells – 1st place Youth Performance
Bethan Peacock – 3rd place Youth Performance
Dylan, George, Kelsey and their teammate Eva Meddins also placed 1st in the Youth Performance Mixed Team event with Bethan’s Youth Performance Female team, which included Eva Lawn, Carys Choules and Maisy Willis, took home a Gold medal in the team event.
The Youth Elite Team of Erin Brady, Lois Child, Olive Dunster and Teah Johnson just missed out on a medal, placing 4th overall in a really tough category.
Head TeamGym Coach Carly Hawke commented:-
This was a great opportunity for the athletes to really focus on something and get into competition mode again. I was so impressed with how hard everyone worked at home in what was extremely difficult circumstances for everyone.
The lockdown made us change the way we work together and I have seen a resilience in these youngsters that has been so heart warming and has made me incredibly proud. These fantastic results are just the icing on the cake.

The Youth Level 5 team of Bethan, Erin, Eva, Olive & Teah were excited to compete for the first time in this event and that definitely showed with some lovely passes being sown which resulted in the team placing 1st on their category!
The Junior Level 4 team were up next and, after having competed in this event last year and just missing out on the medal positions, they really had something to prove. Sport Wales visit WGGC – 28/02/20
We have been so excited to share our news with you but havent been able to do so until now!
We had a very exciting weekend at WGGC on the 15th of February when Sport Wales came to film an episode of the Welsh Sport Insider at our centre!
We were joined my Olympic athlete Mica Moore who came along to see all the fantastic work we are doing within the community and to test her skills by trying out some gymnastics moves!
Mica joined in with our GymKids class and wowed us with her basic gymnastics moves… So now it was time for her to try some of the bigger skills. The squad put her through her paces and she completed an amazing front somersault by the end of her session!
The crew also spent some time interviewing our coaches and parents and really captured the essence of the wonderful club we have here.
The episode is now available to watch and can be found here.
