Competitive Dance

WGGC have a comprehensive dance programme, offering competitive opportunities in Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical and Pom Dance.

Hip Hop
Do you know how to pop and lock it better than all your friends? Do you love tutting (but not at your parents!) Would you love to learn how to glide, shuffle, pin drop and arm wave? If so, Hip Hop is definitely the discipline for you!

With a focus on big, strong movements with bucket fulls of attitude, we have hip hop teams in a number of age categories and is definitely a well loved dance style at WGGC.

Jazz is an exceptionally fun discipline which combines the classical techniques of ballet and modern dance with current popular dance styles.

It has a bit more speed and a lot more sass thrown in! With the main focus on technique, precision and a huge performance factor, it is a hit for many and we have teams to suit every age group.

This is a form of dance that blends elements of both Ballet and Jazz dance.
Lyrical dance is generally a little more fluid than ballet and also somewhat faster, although not as fast paced as jazz.

A lyrical dancer uses movement to express strong emotions, such as love, joy, romance, fear or anger. Dancers often perform to music with lyrics and the lyrics of the chosen song serve as inspiration for the dancers’  movements and expressions.

Pom Dance
Probably the most stereotypical discipline in the Cheerleading programme – when everyone thinks Cheerleading, they think Pom Poms but this is the only event where we use them! However, it is not what you would expect….. These fast tempo, upbeat routines are made up of spins, leaps, jumps and quick tempo dance makes it a very dynamic discipline and great to watch.

How to get involved
Entry to our Competitive Dance Squad is by Trial only. We hold open trials once a year but if you cannot make the trial date we are able to arrange a private trials on an ad-hoc basis dependant on the time of year.
